Eating Consciously Is Confusing

grassfed, organic, free range, cage free, natural, hormone free, no antibiotics, local, locavore, sustainable, HFCS, factory farm, industrial organic, etc.

When I decided to become a conscious eater (unknowingly as I started this blog) the list above is only the tip of the iceberg of terms that I’ve encountered. And this whole time I’ve been thoroughly confused. Documentaries like Food Inc and King Corn and books like The China Study and Omnivore’s Dilemma only makes an essential activity like eating very complicated when you want to do it the “right way”. When the proverbial veil was taken away from my eyes it has become so hard to eat because the non-sustainable, hormone laden, processed food is everywhere. Even buying a pack of nuts has all sorts of preservatives that seem harmless but who knows?

To be a conscious eater you almost need an opt out button. Does that exist? Do I have to start growing my own food? What’s the balance between practicality, environmentally friendly, ad healthy?

  1. That is always hard. I read a lot of labels and if I could make things from scratch I do.

  2. I too have read The China Study. Completely changed me.

  3. love filipino food. filipina ako. and the dish i love to make is pansit. and would love to see a video on you cooking it. I made it a couple of times and sometimes its great sometimes its not. and just wandering if you can show me how to make it properly.

    salamat po.

  4. My father is so conscious with the food he eats. He always consults Google the side effects of the contents of each dish. As a result, bangus and tilapia na lang kinakain nya araw-araw. Marami daw kase allergens yung ibang food. Hahaha

  5. Eating consciously for me is knowing the consequences f what i eat- oooh. It’s a difficult task. I need to lose my belly bulge!

Great website you have here. Continue promoting Filipino dishes. i work for a company with diverse cultural backgrounds and interestingly, they like Filipino food so much!

  6. Sorry, I entered email address incorrectly. Here it is.
